A refrigerator can fit the cabinet opening and still fail in use because a wall blocks the hinge, a drawer meets an island, or the delivery route is narrower than the appliance. Check these as separate stages.
Use dimensions and clearances from the exact model installation guide. Retail dimensions with and without handles or doors describe different checkpoints and are not interchangeable.
How to use this tool
Measure the opening more than once
Record width at several heights, height at several widths, and cabinet depth from the rear wall to the face.
Add manufacturer clearances
Enter required side, top, rear, and hinge-wall spacing from the installation guide.
Check operation depth
Use overall depth with doors at 90 degrees and drawers fully extended, then compare with the aisle.
Walk the delivery path
Measure exterior doors, halls, turns, stairs, rails, elevators, and the kitchen entrance.
Nominal width is not required opening width
The planner adds both side clearances to the product width and adds top clearance to product height. A refrigerator advertised as 36 inches wide may need more than 36 inches, while some models are slightly under their nominal class.
Door swing depends on the exact hinge geometry
The hinge-wall check uses the model-specific clearance you enter. It cannot infer whether doors open beyond 90 degrees, bins can be removed, or handles clear adjacent trim. Test the manufacturer drawing and preferred opening angle.
Delivery is a three-dimensional route
- The doorway result is a conservative upright rectangle check, not a guarantee around corners.
- Removing appliance doors may expose hinges or wiring and should follow manufacturer instructions.
- House doors, trim, railings, flooring transitions, and packaging can reduce usable space.
- Confirm delivery-service rules before relying on disassembly.

How much wall clearance does the hinge side need?
It depends on hinge design, handle, opening angle, and nearby trim. Enter the manufacturer minimum, then add practical room if you need wide drawer or bin access.
Will it fit through a 32-inch door?
Compare the clear doorway after stops, hinges, and trim with the appliance depth after permitted door removal. Tight turns and packaging can still prevent delivery.
